Judge Blasts Police Lawyer For Sluggishness Over Seun Egbegbe’s Prosecution

Judge Blasts Police Lawyer For Sluggishness Over Seun Egbegbe’s Prosecution

Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, today slammed Barrister Innocent Anyigor for inefficiency and sluggishness in prosecuting a criminal case involving Nollywood producer Seun Egbegbe.

According to Sahara Reporters, the judge, fed up with the manner which Mr. Anyigor is handling the case, flared up when the lawyer informed the court he filed an amendment and served the defendant on the same day the case was to be heard.

Bristling with anger, Justice Oguntoyinbo told the lawyer to distinguish clearly between being a professional lawyer and a civil servant.

"I don't deal with civil servants; I deal with professionals,” she said.  “You have a choice of either being a civil servant or a professional. This is how cases get adjourned unnecessarily. You can't be pretending to be prosecuting a case, and nothing is happening. You don't amend charges and serve it the other day or morning of the hearing day; it doesn't happen here.”

Justice Oguntoyinbo further advised Mr. Anyigor to be more serious with the case, or she will return the matter to the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

"You have to be up and doing because we don't want criminal matters to stay long in court. I have people I report to, and they are mostly interested in criminal matters. Please take this advice or else I will send this case back to the IGP," she threatened.
