Mum arrested after CCTV shows her 'deliberately abandoning her toddler in supermarket'

 A mother has been arrested after intentionally abandoning her toddler daughter at a supermarket, police said.

A manhunt was launched after the woman was caught on CCTV deliberately walking out of a grocery store in California without the two-year-old girl.

Chiengkham Vilaysane was held on Tuesday evening following a public appeal for information.



Riverside Police say they are "100 per cent" confident the 31-year-old is the child's mother.Officers were called to the Food 4 Less store on Van Buren Blvd at around 6pm on Sunday after the little girl was found alone but unharmed,reports Daily Mirror.

Surveillance footage from the store shows the woman paying for her groceries before walking out of the store without her daughter.

When a bystander tried to reunite the child with her mother after they became separated, Vilaysane allegedly said: "Oh, just leave her."

Police released the footage on Monday and received a tip-off which helped them trace the mother by Tuesday morning.
