A container loaded suspected mixed diesel
• Confiscates 25 containers loaded with 5,000 litres of product
The operatives of the Lagos State Task Force have dislodged illegal bunkers of Automotive Gasoline Oil (AGO) popularly called ‘diesel’ and destroyed over two million litres of mixed diesel around Coker, Orile area of Lagos.
The operations were carried out based on a series of petitions submitted to the Office of the Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force, Olayinka Egbeyemi, a Superintendent of Police.
Egbeyemi, who is currently on a training course hosted by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), San Diego, California, however directed his second-in-command, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Wilson Alaba, to lead the operations.
Petitions from members of the public to the Lagos State Task Force detailed that due to the increase in the cost of diesel, some people were buying tankers of diesel oil and adulterated it with kerosene around Orile in Lagos.
According to spokesman of the agency, Adebayo Taofeek, no fewer than 25 containers loaded with 5,000 litres of mixed diesel oil and more 4,500 kegs of mixed diesel oil were destroyed by the agency at the weekend.
“Residents of the area disclosed that those bunkers have been operating around the area for over seven years.“A tricycle operator in the area, Mr. Salami Ogunsanya, said those, who engaged in the illegal business had been buying original 33,000-litre of diesel everyday and mixed it with kerosene to double the tanker capacity of 66,000 litres.
“He confirmed that he closed 7:00p.m. daily because once it was night, miscreants and hoodlums, who engaged in this illegal business would rob innocent members of the public of their valuables.”
Ogunsanya and other residents expressed happiness and thanked the Lagos State Task Force for their prompt interventions.They, however, commended the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode for his efforts at providing enough security for lives and property of the citizenry.
Meanwhile, the operatives of the Lagos State Task Force during the third Quarter of this year (July, August and September) impounded 3480 motorcycles plying restricted routes across the State.
Also 5,890 miscreants and hoodlums were arrested, out of which 1,500 were screened out and 4,390 prosecuted. All residents and people around Orile and Coker area commended the Lagos State Task Force.
They claimed they had written several petitions to many security agencies of government but only Lagos State Task Force responded to them promptly and effectively.
