A 27-year-old woman, Miss Gift Uche, was on Tuesday arraigned at a Mararaba Upper Area Court in Nasarawa State for alleged misappropriation of N903,995 belonging to her employer, Zenon Chemical and Laboratories Limited.
The defendant resides at Area 5, Aso Pada, Mararaba, Nasarawa State.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Donald Hamen, told the court that one Linda Akubudike and Akulaja Adeyinka, the Branch Manager and Internal Auditor of the company, reported the matter at the Mararaba Police Station on March 1.
Hamen said that the complainants alleged that the defendant, being the company’s first sales representative, embezzled the company’s N903,995.
He also alleged that after the police investigation, it was discovered that the defendant appropriated part of her 2016 sales’ proceeds amounting to N903, 995 to herself.
Hamen said that the offence contravened Section 309 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The presiding officer, Mr Ibrahim Shekarau, granted her bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.
Shekarau held that the surety must deposit two passport photographs and must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
He adjourned the case till March 28 for further hearing.
